She has been closely identified with Log Cabins ever since, usually including some in every book she writes. Her most famous Log Cabin design is Colorado Log Cabin, which has been copied so many times, most people mistakenly think it is traditional. Judy Martin has designed and published nearly 1000 original patchwork patterns. She is particularly noted for the accuracy of her patterns.

I like this book as far as the content. Beautiful patterns. I wouldn't suggest this for beginners. Good instructions and pictures. The problem is with the construction of the book. It started coming apart almost immediately. With any instruction book, you're turning the pages and going back and forth many times. This book is not designed for that (at all !!). It should have been spiral bound. I guess as the pages come out, I will hole punch and put into a notebook.
My mom and I decided to do log cabin quilts together and purchased this book for the patterns. It has a bunch of helpful hints that were easy to understand. The one problem we had with the book was that the fabric requirements were listed in fat quarters and not at all in yards. So we had to do some math to figure out how much fabric we needed. It also had some trouble areas in certain patterns with not being clear as to what size to cut the blocks/strips. It was not easy to understand for me as a beginning sewer and took my mom who is an expert sewer some thinking to really understand it. We really enjoy the pages of pattern ideas though and plan to use this book for more quilts.
I love the book. It was purchased because our guild was doing one of the patterns and I live a distance away and often need extra help. The book not only has explicit directions but presents many different log cabins and ways to put them together. It is easy enough for a beginner but has style. The "Stone Cottage" pattern could probably be taught to very young children for their first quilt. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is looking for a different way to make a log cabin.
Very detailed instructions with multiple possibilities for different quilts. Beautiful illustrations/pictures of finished quilts, with layout instructions for each. If you like the log cabin pattern, you with LOVE this book.
I am new to quilting but an experienced sewer. I recently moved to a new house with a log cabin feel so that I would like to put wall quilts in every room. When I discovered so many variations on the theme that allow "log cabin" framing of other motifs, I was hooked...which isn't hard as when I'm hooked on something, I have to have every available item in that theme so I am not missing any of the "big picture". As usual, I liked Judy's book. Her instructions are always good and the pictures are great. I have made quilts from her books in the past and plan on using this book to make one. I love that they are scrappy so I can use fabrics from my stash. I would recommend this book to my quilting friends.
So I had this, and I can't find it anywhere, so i bought this one as a replacement- I love this book. Judy's Intro is a bit intimidating. I want to make the Snake River (at first I was sold on doing the Summer Lake) even Stone Cottage has appeal. But I'll be shopping for the rest of my Snake River fabrics soon. Any corrections on patterns is available on her website.
