I love to make snowflakes and I bought this for some fresh ideas. It has some cute ideas, but I was hoping for more variety in the type. Anyone who is artistically inclined at all can take the ideas and add to them and make some stunning shapes from these ideas. It is a pretty book. I don't understand their "how to fold a snowflake" instructions and I just do it the way I have been doing it, as it makes more sense. Perhaps if they had photos instead of drawings it would make more sense, but it is still a good reference book to have.
The designs are amazing - five stars for that. However, the designs are printed very lightly, thus difficult to copy or scan (especially in book format). Then to add insult to injury it is noted that the templates are available on-line...for free! Aaarggg. What was the point of buying the book it they are giving the designs away for free.
I purchased this based on reviews that grand children liked it. It requires very intricate cutting. Exacto knife percision or specialty scissors. Too difficult for the kids. I will save it and maybe they will be interested in this in the future. It is very overpriced.
I thought this was more of a how-to book, rather than a pattern book. But the patterns are great and the snowflakes turned out well. I did turn patterns into stencils so I can make more than one of each pattern and that turned out well too.
I love this. The kids are totally amazed when they see the creation they have cut. I would recommend this book to everyone who wanted to make a perfect snowflake! I am giving more of these away for Christmas presents.(Well, Thanksgiving starter so they can make them for Christmas.)
The author is an amazing woman who shares her snowflake art at the City Museum in St. Louis, Missouri. Get the book, but go visit the author.
I'm using the templates in the book to create appreciation gifts for the keepers at our local zoo. There is something for almost everyone.... and I think I can create the few I need following some of the ones in the book.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Each snowflake is rated by it's difficulty, so people of all ages can participate. The best part is, you can download the templates online and print them off on fun paper. This has already provided hours of entertainment for my children, and myself!
