My 6 year old loved this book! Illustrations were great, text was well organized, and it was at the right level for a beginning reader. Most of the words were easy but he also included some challenging words. Juliet wanted to read it twice in a row. She looked at the last page and asked me to order all the books by this author for her!

This was a very informative book with interesting pictures and comparisons. It started out at a lower reading level with a few sentences per page then advanced to several paragraphs per page with many facts. Good for my 8year old nephew and I to read together!

Four of the five books are excellent historical novels that weave a rich tapestry of Islamic history and culture from the Arab Muslim point of view. The 5th is a contemporary take on Muslims in Pakistan, London, China, and the United States. It is not, in my opinion, as strong as the first four books, although I thought the last third of it was terrific. This quintet is a must read for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the roots of the sorry state of affairs we experience today among Muslims, Christians, and Jews, as well as the conflict between the Middle East and the West.

Excellent book by Ali. In fact, I have read 4 out of 5 books already and it has been a rewarding experience. Ali is able to reveal history and culture during golden era while simultaneously explaining history through 'fiction'.

Stories from Islamic civilization. The author weaves historical figures into great plots. Each book is long enough to build a detailed picture but short enough to enjoy in some few casual reading sessions.

These five stories are all interesting. I personally enjoyed the first 4 more than the last, but that's my opinion. All of them tell interesting, and varied stories, with the common thread being Islam's survival in a "Catholic" world.

Except for the last book, the other four books were not a bad read. The last book, I could not finish and gave up about half way. Of all these, the fourth one, Sultan of Palermo, I liked best - it closely follows the accepted history.

Really enjoyed the first 4 stories. The fifth not as well. I would recomend this book highly.

My family has to bear with me ever since I plunged into this quintet. This to me is literature at its best: historical facts and profound ideas wrapped in the most beautiful story-telling. I'm spellbound!

This is another excellent publication by National Geogtraphic. It is full of interesting and fun facts that children and adults love. This is a very educational book that helps children and adults learn about intersting and historical people complete with 500 incredible photos. It also contains games, puzzles, homework help and answers to all of these as well! It begins with a "Stump Your Parent" page that engages young people and makes it a group reading exercise that is interesting and educational for all ages. This little book encourages children of all levels. Younger children love the pictures and the stories that go with them and older children become interested enough to want to search the internet for more information! I recommend this book to all parents and teachers who are willing to spend 10 minutes a day on a topic in this almanac starting with President Obama as the first African American President in the section labeled "Your World 2010," and including other sections that include: Awsome adventures, Amazing Animals, Culture COnnection, Geography Rocks, Going Green, History Happens, Wonders of Nature, and Super Science. National Geographic Kids Almanac 2010

Purchased this for my niece. She reads all these almanacs cover to cover, over and over again. These are great ideas for christmas or birthdays - hours of fun for the kids in your life.

This tome is packed with text. My 6 year old has been reading it for weeks and she is only a third of the way through. It is well worth the price. I wish they gave it a sturdier cover - it's too magaziney and flimsy and will not last until she finishes reading it.Hey, it's much, much better than watching TV.

These are the best! My 8 year old son loves the almanacs! There are so many times that we are going somewhere and he starts telling me some random fact and I ask where he gets it and it's always "my almanacs!"
