It features 100 new party-friendly creations and page upon page of less than stimulating banter laid out as marginalia opposite each recipe ("Milk has always been thought to provide some comfort for an upset stomach"). Still, it's hard to dislike a cookbook that puts the desserts at the beginning. Cake de Cuba Libre is the most effervescent of the batch, with rum and Coca-Cola in both the batter and the accompanying sauce. Standouts among the various soups and main dishes include Sweet Plantain Soup, Cuban Wedding Shrimp in a sauce of rum and orange juice, and traditional pork chops with plenty of garlic. The authors are willing to Cubanize at will; there is Cuban Style Lobster (with Chorizo), Cuban Stuffed Turkey (with a rice and bean stuffing) and Cuban Baby Back Ribs (with Guava Sauce). The many full-page color photos make all the recipes look mouth-watering; less appetizing are the shots of the Three Guys in loud shirts or staggering down a beach. (Sept.) There's some great drink recipes in this book. They are perhaps the star, but there's a good variety of recipe types. There's drinks, desserts, soups, salads, and main dishes. A lot of the recipes are built on rice. It's got full color pictures and the text is quite interesting. The recipes are well written and easy to follow with very accessible ingredients. One recipe that we really liked was "Garlic Chicken." It was quite the keeper, the whole family liked it. Coconut Rice pudding is also a very nice recipe.This is a big book. Generally the recipes are nutritious and tasty, with lots of flavor built up from citrus and garlic, cumin, and Spanish paprika, but are not overly hot-spicy.
It was the recipe for the Cuba Libre cake that made me buy this book. I've got the Three Guys' first cookbook and use it regularly. The recipes work, the ingredients - most of them - are easily found in regular grocery stores, and hard to find ingredients come with directions for how to make a substitute.I'm not one to read a cookbook, but this one truly is a fun read. The commentary that comes with the recipes is engaging and well worth the time to read.No, I have not made the Cuba Libre cake yet. It's on my to be baked list.
I had their Cook Cuban book so why not buy this one. Filled with great recipes, some with twists! I love it...if my mom is not around to give me her recipe I reference these books. Very authentic and I love the way they include tidbits of Cuban life and culture lost to all of us except for when Mami or Papi would remember and recount the old days. My dad is from Havana, I can't wait to mention the ice cream shop referenced in the book and see him light up and recall those days. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Well put together book of recipes and photos. Good quality materials, but most important of all, great recipes! Used several for my daughter's wedding and received many, many compliments. Bought a second one as a gift.
Love all of the recipes. Love Cuban food. However it is not low fat diet food. Just delicious so perfect for special occasions.
Great recipes. I grew up in Key West and wanted to start cooking different Cuban dishes and this book is a great refresher as I had no recipes written down.
