Others have mentioned a repetitive plot, and it's true. The first book in this trilogy sets up an interesting premise - augmented reality via "brainocytes," a nanotechnology that maps and uses dormant portions of the normal human brain - but then the first-person narrative occupies itself with car chase after car chase, and Dr. Evil after Dr. Evil - most of them related to the main character in some way, for some reason. When, in the third book, the author blithely ignores the likely hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide that occur, because dammit, the wife and son are safe! ... I went from neutral to thumbs down on the book. Definitely a "department of redundancy department" series.
Enjoyed the character development but plot became repetitive and I wasn’t able to get through the third book.
I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this trilogy but the third went in very ethically dubious directions. The main female character drove me bonkers with her self righteous, judgemental, manipulative behaviour and the whole group became prime examples of elitist pseudo intellectualism running amok. Yes they often had altruistic motives but when your decisions affect the whole world, it's time to, at the very least, widen your pool of advisers.
Thought provoking and a futuristic look at what technology may soon become. The characters are real and emotionally draining. I've laughed, shouted, cried and feel as if I lived through them. My hats off to Dima Zales for showing me what happiness could feel like, once again!
The story is fun and entertaining for those of us who like science fiction, suspense and action. However, more enjoyable are the many possibilities that the book shows about our future with the artificial enhancement of our minds.
I am normally a romance reader, but every once in a while I venture out of my “norm†and try something different. I have read another trilogy from Dima Zales before and I enjoyed it a lot, so I wanted to try this one as well.I am on the second book now, but I wanted to leave my review now for the combined trilogy and I will update once I finished.Book is well written, characters developed very well and story is so so interesting to me. I love all the futuristic stuff in it, it intrigues me so much to see how our future could/might be. Dima is excellent in describing all these details and it keeps me glued to the book.All the technical parts/ programming stuff he explains well, so I am able to follow. I truly enjoy this book and I am ready to finish and se what he will do with the storyline. What is going to happen on the end. I think books are excellently written and I highly recommend them if you enjoy futuristic /sci-if stories.
These books are fantastic. They really build on one another and the Neural Web is a programmers dream. The ideas that come out of this are highly creative. It was fast paced action scenes with complex theories. I enjoyed the story and it was refreshing to hear new real world ideas about what we could see in the future of programming even though this is fiction. Dima Zales has thought up a world of real world issues in a fantasy mind construct that I want to be a part of. Fantastic Read,
Even though I wonder how the main character, Mike, manages to repeatedly survive the absolute hell he does make it through, I truly enjoyed this series. This trilogy is set in the near future and could easily be today's America. The Brainocytes nano-tech concept is very interesting and could be in our future. Basically it asks the question, "What would happen if nanites could be introduced into the brain and then connected to the internet and other computers?" It's a fascinating concept and much of the reason the books drew me in so quickly. There were a few areas that stretched things a bit too far, such as Mike's survival against odds that would kill anyone else and Alan's intellect at 4 physical years old. Other than that, the Human++ series is a pleasant read and a nice break from reality. I would like to read other books in this world, maybe from other's viewpoints.
