Roosevelt had served as president of the United States several years before, and he was campaigning once again for his old job.His speech was written on fifty pages of paper that he had folded and stuck in his upper jacket pocket. Outside his hotel, Roosevelt never saw the saloonkeeper who approached him with a gun drawn. Someone in the crowd did see the gun and pushed the would-be assassin’s arm away, just as the trigger was pulled. The shooter fired once and Roosevelt fell to the ground, but quickly rose. He did not know he had been hit until someone noticed a hole in his overcoat. When he reached inside his coat, he realized he had been wounded. The bulky, folded speech in his pocket, along with the steel case for his glasses, saved his life.Although he was bleeding, Roosevelt insisted that he give the speech. The crowd could not believe that he would continue to speak rather than go to the hospital after being shot. But Roosevelt told them, “It takes more than that to kill a bull moose.”“Bull Moose” was just one of the nicknames Theodore Roosevelt earned during his long career in politics. Some of the others were Teedie, TR, Teddy (a nickname he hated), and the Trust Buster. Bought for my daughters book report for 3rd grade. She enjoyed reading it, decent amount of pictures to keep her intrigued. She got a 99 on the report, so can't complain.

We read the entire book in one sitting. My seven-year-olds wanted to learn every detail about their favorite president. This was a win!

This was such a wonderful book for my 8 year old to read!! I even enjoyed listening to him read!! He is right at a 3rd grade reading level and it wasnt too hard but it challenged him.

My son loves this book. I think he has gone back and read it about ten times now. All of the books in this series are great, especially since they are written with kids in mind, and not Common Core :-)

Exactly as expected, fast shipping, well pleased.

I love these biographies for my fifth grade classes. They are written in a way that is entertaining, which can be tough with the biography genre. This book begins by explaining the incident where Roosevelt was shot while giving a speech, but kept right on talking. My fifth graders were interested right away since the beginning was so catchy! All I had to do was read them the beginning, and then many students wanted to borrow it. Since then I've had more and more students want to borrow different "Who Was" books I have in my classroom library. The illustrations give it just enough interest to keep them reading. I also liked how there were different features like timelines, etc. that help me to teach them text features. This is a great book for a fifth grader, or any student in an upper elementary or middle school grade.

Usually I am sceptical when a reviewer says he/she laughed out loud. Usually I find some humor, but this time the reviewers are spot on. Maybe if you don't have personal experience with farm life you won't enjoy this as much; but, having grown up with dairy cows, I found her experiences with Attila hilarious. Hank's bronco ride had me laughing out loud. The love she felt for her family comes through: the closeness she shared as her Dad's sidekick, and the scares she gave her poor Mother! I'm happy to say that she must have a good editor/proofreader. Only a couple of goofs, like phased for fazed slipped through. Not enough to disturb the reading enjoyment of this old teacher. I gladly recommend this memoir, and plan to read some of this author's fiction.

OMG, OMG!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has lived on a farm or wonders what it would be like...Shanna has a bushel basket load of stories for you. She has such a knack for giving mental images in her writings that you may wonder if you only read about something or did you actually experience it. She shares her family in the stories as well as all the critters that go with the farm scene. Reading one story each morning would certainly put sunshine in the rest of your day. She's included some pictures to enhance the stories and, of course, her signature recipe at the end. Treat yourself to this delightful book; I double-dog dare ya to not smile or even laugh out loud at some of the situations she describes.

Growing up on a farm in the Midwest and still living on that farm I can certainly relate to Shanna Hatfield's "adventures". It surely brought back a lot of memories so please don't think of this book as pure fiction. I did not have brothers but followed my father and grandfather like a shadow and like Shanna avoided house hold chores like a plague. Even if you have never set foot on a farm this book is a great read and believe me it could happen and probably did.

Even though I wasn't raised as a farm girl, I could relate to a few of these experiences living in farm country and visiting family and friends. Shanna is such a wonderful story teller, she had me laughing out loud at times. Her love of family and the loving way she grew up on the farm, which you will read here, shows in all the books she writes, which I love and enjoy reading. Recommended for the giggles that are sure to come out, as you read this true to life book. JudyE

I liked the easy flow of this book, more like a collection of memorable incidents in Shanna's life than consecutive chapters of a story, it does however hold ones interest. I liked the stories as they reminded me of my own lonely childhood growing up without siblings or friends way out in the country. If you are looking for a solid story to get your teeth into, this is not it, but it is an easy, quick read with lots of laughs.

Loved this book. Shanna has a great way of telling stories to be descriptive and great fun. I was reminded of many similar incidents from my own growing up in the country years and had many good laughs while reading this book. A rare find in this world of grim or bawdy stories. You will enjoy every chapter and probably resell a few tales!Thanks, Shanna for the entertainment and the short escape back to the good ole days.

I can't remember when was the last time I read a book I enjoyed as much as Farm Girl. How refreshing to read about a normal family. No abuse No bad language. No sex. Just a very well written fun book from start to finish. Laughed at the antics of the animals. Can't wait to read more from this author.

I throughly enjoyed reading Farm Girl. Laughing several time in each chapter. I would have to say Shanna nailed it perfectly.

This book is great, and the phrases are authentic. Wow, are they authentic. I ran some of them by my Hungarian friends, and they said, yep, that's how we say that. Waiting at a tram stop in Budapest, I heard one teen-aged girl say to another, "Baszd meg," (look it up!) in casual conversation, so, yes, these are genuine expressions. Some of them are more interesting than things we Americans say, such as "Don't let me hear anything good about you!" instead of "See you later, alligator!" It's worth buying for phrases like that alone.

I'm Hungarian have been living there before moving to the US. I bought this for my American boyfriend. It is cute and funny (I mean it is quite dirty, but imagine that with someone trying to pronounce well :)), but a large part of the expressions are not really used in Hungary, some I never heard. I think it is a bit outdated.

Bought this for a bday present for my bf and he's having a blast dropping some slang on my mom.Learning a language is hard, but at least this makes it fun!

This book is an absolute hoot; extremely dirty, yes, but also has a lot of useful and fun phrases that will work in plenty of situations outside the bedroom. I have already mastered several that come in handy when dealing with tiresome co-workers, particularly "az osszes munkatarsam komplett idiota." For most other situations when I am extremely annoyed, "kurva szar!" is my new favorite phrase.

The title emphasizes obscenities, which are here, but it's mostly the slang and you need to know how to speak Hungarian as it's spoken. The intro on e.g. Pronunciation is the best I've found without sound recordings. I'm learning in preparation for retiring to BP with my Hungarian wife, and this is my favorite resource. To me the slangy envelope wrapping the lessons is very entertaining and helps the learning. I recommend!

As an Hungarian American who travels to Hungary regularly, I thought this would be a laugh so I bought it for my Kindle.It is, in fact, a blast of a book, even if you don't know any Hungarian at all. If you do- it is hysterical, I had never heard of someof the phrases or terms. I ended up buying a hard copy for my family to enjoy at get-togethers. Worth the laugh!

Exactly like I expected, its help me remember various words I had forgotten

While growing up in a Hungarian household, I never heard this kind of descriptive language. I did hear a few after I got married. It was never a pleasant conversation when choice dirty words were uttered. Am no longer married so reading this book is strictly my guilty pleasure. I plan to read every single page eventually. I definitely do not recommend this book be shared with young children.

The impulse-buy aisles and dollar-store bins are full of insta-books by famous internet people. Remember "Stuff White People Like"? Remember that guy? He wrote a book! The record on this type of multi-media experience is... spotty.But I adored this book, probably because my brain has, like the authors' brains, been rotted out by the mid-90s comedy of "Mr. Show," "The Simpsons," and "MST3K." On the same page, you're going to get a table-pounding rant about the Democratic Party's refusal to challenge post-Cold War foreign policy orthodoxy, and a sidebar joke about Italian people. ("ITALY. Population: 60 million legitimate businessmen.")The banter you love from the show translates very well to print; the mixed-media stuff, like a the gruesome illustrated gallery of "libs" and "cons," elevates jokes that wouldn't have worked on the show. There are in-jokes and deep cuts and weird references that might throw the reader who's leafing through it -- I got (I think?) most of the references and I had great fun de-tangling them.The main question is: If we end up in a "Canticle for Liebowitz" situation, and a post-apocalyptic society has to rebuild from one text, would this book save civilization? I think the answer is yes, though our mutated descendants are going to know more about the "Matrix" sequels than they need to.

This he held steadfastly intact for fifteen years or more- then when the time was right, as it were, he discharged it, in a dense mass, to his eternal glory."An artist storing up life, in all its wonderous emergences and strivings, in his bowels for a decade or two and then exploding it in sustained digestive inspiration has a materially transformative effect. With 'The Chapo Guide to Revolution' we're dealing with diametric opposition. Particularly, one imagines, the bearded morbidly obese one of the group, they have scooped up everything lethargic and mercilessly boorish, pulsatingly insignificant, branded into the flesh the mark of hedonic automaton, have greedily ingested a thousand vague resentments and didn't even have the decency to restrict their monstruous bowel movement to the porta potty. Desperate to further cash in on the cultural hunger for ever more boistrous, empty demand making and grievance mongering, they put it in book form.Marvel with the Chapo gang as your guide as they take you through history in an unforgettable tour. You'll learn: that because America had regional geopolitical interests, it's most unfair that the Khmer Rouge ended up in the 'Black Book of Communism.' Of course, were they time travelers the gang undoubtedly would have been right alongside Chomsky as he astral projected himself to the rice fields and returned declaring that all the troublesome little talk of genocide was bourgeois propaganda. It turned out there were just too many skulls to sweep under the rug and so the gang do the next best thing: if they can just spray enough liquid dung over those glimmering white skulls set against the green and brown forest, the hope is they'll be camouflaged. "But wurt about 'Amuricar?" Like a magic wand which absolves leftist ideological import of any responsibility.And there you have the template for the tour: a clumsy romp of such hyper-manichean stupidity as to be breathtaking: incredulity that there actually existed compromisers leading up to and after the Civil War- the sentiment goes that every man, woman, and child should have been unswerving in their eagerness to ensure as immediately much bloodshed as possible, if only, of course, because the cause was so righteous. And hey, all those collectivization resisting kulaks and eastern european nationalists who resisted the iron curtain, heh heh, they got what was coming to them for not being on "the right side of history." Despite a laughable little bone toss to a "global order built on egalitarianism...that rejects violence and militarism in toto" our lovable gang of, effectively, social democrats, is as bloodthirsty as any vampirical neocon.Not that I myself mind, necessarily. To be honest if this is representative, this drum poundingly tawdry book, of the future of "revolt," and here I'll interject again with Wyndham Lewis who captured its spirit preemptively and for all time better than anyone:"Everything which can be called radical or rebel, or which palpably can receive that label, and reach its destination, excites him, in rather the same way that 'scarlet sin' and suggestions of Sodom or Lesbos, or worse, thrill the sex-snob, schoolboy, curate or spinster of stage tradition- the latter the authentic affinity of the revolutionary simpleton."Yes, if this is the future, dear God, can we skip all of these mind destroyingly dull therapy sessions, the lazy squealing, the barrage of wine chugging influenced tweets, and just get to the war?

I found no mistakes, and it’s very well written, although apparently this is the authors first novel. I’ll certainly be looking for any others that follow.

Val Bodden captivated me with “Not Until Forever”! She has the ability to create characters that are very real and experience the tumultuous ups and downs of life! Val has a way of making her readers feel the very essence of each character’s emotions. I really appreciate the way she takes her Christian beliefs and applies them to her novels as a witness to Jesus Christ. Keep them coming!

I actually felt like I was visiting with friends, not reading a book. Even though it was very much a complete story, I wanted to know about everyone else. I am ready for another book in the series. I connected with the characters and still think of their struggles and Christ in their lives.

Spenser needed at home to take over the orchards, till his dad got back on his feet. A semester to graduate, and Sophie three years with her, and now nothing, except to go home. She said he was just emotional, she was leaving for Chicago in two months. 5 years later hoping to become a VIP and she get a phone call from a grandmother who raised her, saying she was loved, and ready to go home. With doctors saying she had a few days, Sophie couldn’t let that happened. Decision, her boss said, if you leave the account it goes to someone else, and no promotion. Back at home Spenser is the first person she sees.Will they have second chance, or always family first. Tender story of which is more important, and well done.

I love second chance love stories and this was delivers. What a great romance that blooms once again. I appreciate the story written from a Christian perspective. You still have all the romance in this wonderfully written story.

Sophie and Spencer chose to go their separate ways when they were younger. Now they have a second chance at love. Great book!

Loved it and couldn’t wait to keep reading more! I usually read mysteries/thrillers or nonfiction stories so this was the first Christian novel I have read and I can’t wait to get lost in another story!

This was one of the best books repairing tanks of the German army. There should be more books like these. I've been collecting books mainly Russian front 41-45 since 1973. Most of my books come from Fedorowicz. If you want to see what it was repairing armor in WWII this is the book.

Stunning! This is the second volume and I hope there are more. This book was published by the wonderful people who have done the Panzerwrecks series. I am very happy with this new book.

The story continues...The same outstanding quality as Vol. 1.

Volume 2 of this series is a much anticipated and worthy follow up to volume 1 of repairing the Panzers. This book brings a wealth of information and detail on WWII German armour. The photographs are real gems. What intrigues is the imaginative ways in which Germany tried both to maintain and hold on to its small tank force, if compared to that of the allies.There no other books on this topic with this kind of photographic evidence and detail in my opinion. Mr Friedli has produced a masterful compilation of the subject matter, and his books are exceptional in all aspects.I am sure this book would be of benefit to the avid modellers as well as a History buff on the use of repairing Amour and its various issues of battle recovery, as well as, the recovery in the most extreme of conditions. I cannot recommend this title strongly enough and have thus rated a worthy 5 stars.

There is quite a bit of information in this book for WWII armor enthusiasts (and for WWII historians in general). Two particular examples are the specific K.St.N. It's worth around $32.00 but not the $54.00 originally paid (the current $41.00 price is a bit more reasonable). However, those not on a fixed low-income may ignore this bit of bias.As to the title of this review, this book shows another link in a chain of evidence that led to Germany's total defeat in WWII. It describes, in very good detail, the improvisations forced on HEER(Army) (and SS) panzer troops. It also busts the myth of German efficiency. Had a little more thought gone into providing for Panzer maintenance, more panzers (tanks) would have gone back into battle. Having more tanks available for combat, alone, could not have prevented defeat, only delay it some. What might have changed the course of history, in WWII, is Nazi Germany not having to improvise so much in virtually all aspects of its operations.This book is a very good chronicle in one aspect of the many ways men in the field had to adapt and overcome enormous obstacles. For the present price of $41.00, "Repairing the Panzers..." is well worth the investment.
